In double-toggle jaw crushers, the crusher that moves operates with an eccentric shaft, which moves the rear and front toggles down and up. Each revolution of the shaft is what causes the crusher jaw that moves to close, on a downstroke, followed by an opening on each upstroke.
This toggle is secured into place by a spring-loaded tension rod. The eccentric located behind the jaw that swings stops damages to the eccentric since the bearings and shaft experience no shock loading as the materials are crushed.

The jaw of the crusher moves in a similar way to a door that swings, hinged from above, and is pulled closed and open from the bottom. One of the toggle plates is positioned along the bottom part of the eccentric-arm and swinging jaw. The other toggle-plate is found directly on the other side of this eccentric arm.
